Dalhousie University is hiring an instructor (Part-Time Academic) to teach two sections of CRWR 3021 Creative Writing Fiction II (January – April 2022). Section 01 is currently scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:35-11:25; Section 02 is currently scheduled for Wednesdays from 17:35-20:25.
Admission to the course is upon satisfactory (ie. a grade of “B” or higher) completion of CRWR 3020/ENGL 3099. The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, workshopping, and evaluation. The part-time academic should also be available for two hours per week for consultation with students. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.
Applicants should hold an MA or MFA in Creative Writing or another relevant field with at least one recent book of published fiction. Demonstrated expertise in another genre of writing will be given preference, such as song writing, poetry, creative non-fiction, Sci-Fi, Indigenous literatures, Afrofuturism. Demonstrated expertise in current pedagogical methods of teaching at the post-secondary level is required for this position. Service as a university writer-in-residence may count toward teaching experience. For each part-time academic the Chair will conduct an annual assessment of teaching performance, now required under the CUPE Collective Agreement. This assessment will be based on student ratings of instruction and may also include classroom observation, conducted either by the Chair, Program Coordinator, or a representative from the Centre for Learning and Teaching with reasonable advance notice.
