Theatreagora.ca is a new online meeting space hosted jointly by the Canadian Association for Theatre Studies and the Société québécoise d’études théâtrales. This agora is imagined as a community space, a public square that can be used by our members to host public events and panel discussions. As a member of either association, you will soon be able to register on this site to attend our 2021 joint conference, Crisis and Recovery: Theatre and Performance Before and After the Global Pandemic. The construction of the site is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Strategy Fund and will host many more events organized by CATR and SQET in future years.
This site is currently under construction, but we invite you to visit it to access the conference program (note that all times are in EDT). We will soon be in touch with information about best practices for presenters. Much more will be added as we approach the conference dates!
This year, our conference runs in three legs: June 10-11 hosted by the University of Ottawa, June 25-26 hosted by the Société québécoise d’études théâtrales, and July 8-9 hosted by the University of Manitoba. All conference legs will be open to all conference-registrants. There are no fees to attend the virtual conference, but all attendees must register and be members of either CATR or SQET.
We are excited to announce that our keynote speakers this year are Harvey Young (author of Embodying Black Experience), Kevin Loring (N’lakap’amux from the Lytton First Nation in British Columbia, Artistic Director of Indigenous Theatre at the National Arts Centre of Canada), and Sylvie Chalaye (author of Race et théâtre : un impensé politique).
For any questions about the conference, please email the CATR Communications Officer at catr.communications@gmail.com. For accessibility needs, please email Neil Silcox: neilsilcox@gmail.com.
