Position Summary
A leader in polytechnic education, Humber invites talented, committed individuals interested in teaching on a part-time basis to take the first step in joining our dynamic faculty team from September 2017. The English and ESL courses delivered through the Department of English provide academic, technical, and professional writing courses at the certificate, diploma, and degree levels. Teaching may be assigned at the North and/or Lakeshore campuses.
Qualifications
Successful candidates for the English courses will have at minimum a graduate degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Applied Linguistics, Creative Writing, TESOL, or equivalent. For those applying for ESL positions, a minimum of TESL Ontario certification with at least 2000 hours of teaching experience is required. Candidates should possess an intimate understanding of the role of writing in the post-secondary environment, across a variety of programs, and for a variety of purposes; be skilled in the various approaches to teaching and supporting second-language writing development; and, have a demonstrated and principled approach to student-centred pedagogy. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of successful teaching experience with students of varied educational and cultural backgrounds. In addition, successful candidates will share Humber’s commitment to multicultural diversity, student-centred learning, and instructional technology.
