The Department of Women’s Studies is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor or Lecturer level in the area of indigenous feminist studies, commencing July 1, 2017. This position is part of Mount Saint Vincent University’s Diversity Hiring Program. In keeping with the principles of Employment Equity, this program aims to correct historic underrepresentation and is restricted to candidates who are indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, or Metis).
As the first Department of Women’s Studies in Canada, we have a unique historical connection to the education and advancement of women through the Mission of Mount Saint Vincent University, and are further enriched by the contributions and resources of the endowed Nancy’s Chair in Women’s Studies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to expand departmental course offerings on indigenous issues and to work with the on-campus Indigenous Student Centre. The successful candidate will also have the ability to be an active member of our interdisciplinary MA in Women and Gender Studies through supervising theses and teaching at the graduate level.
The ideal applicant will be a culturally-grounded feminist scholar in the humanities or social sciences with demonstrated lived experience working with indigenous groups and/or communities. Applicants should have good knowledge of indigenous feminist pedagogies and methodologies, as well as of literature and research that addresses post-coloniality/decolonization and/or revitalization/renewal themes. Applicants must possess a PhD in a relevant field, or be close to completion. Evidence of research competence is required. Teaching experience at the university level is an asset.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Agreement with the Mount Saint Vincent University Faculty Association. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
