Description:

The Department of English at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in the area of Cinema Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2015 or shortly thereafter.

Candidates should have a PhD in Cinema Studies/English, or a related field with a focus on non-western cinema by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter. The successful candidate would ideally be able to teach a variety of Cinema Studies courses, with a particular emphasis on non-western, postcolonial, transnational, and/or diasporic cinemas. Ability to teach in the areas of postcolonial literature and culture, literary and cultural theory, and/or non-western aesthetics would also be an asset. Candidates must also have a record of excellence in research, demonstrate the ability to develop an independently funded research program, and must exhibit proven excellence in teaching.

The University offers the opportunity to conduct research, teach, and live in one of the most diverse cities in the world. The primary appointment is at UTSC with a graduate appointment in the Cinema Studies Institute (CSI) at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate will be expected to do research; graduate teaching and supervision in the CSI graduate program; and undergraduate teaching on the Scarborough campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
