Invitation to All BIPOC ACCUTE Members: Fifth Annual BIPOC Meeting of ACCUTE

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are happy to invite you to the fifth annual BIPOC meeting of ACCUTE (Association of Canadian College and University Teachers of English) taking place at George Brown College on Saturday, May 31st from 12pm – 1pm.

Our BIPOC meeting at ACCUTE focuses on issues related to the experiences and continued successes of BIPOC English Scholars in Canada. Amongst other things this year, we will:

  • congratulate the winners of the new ACCUTE BIPOC Caucus’ Research and Community Engagement Award
  • elect the next Member-at-large for the ACCUTE Board of Directors
  • discuss the usefulness and appropriateness of the term “BIPOC” as an umbrella name for our community (@ members’ request)
  • continue to discuss ways of navigating the challenges that come with being a BIPOC English Academic and Researcher.

The meeting is free and open to all ACCUTE members (including faculty and graduate students) who identify as Black, Indigenous, or racialized/people of colour.

If you are interested in running for the position of Member-at-large for the ACCUTE Board of Directors, please let me know (cezenwa@mun.ca), and if you have other related items that should be on our agenda for this meeting, let me know as well. Feel free to share this invitation with other BIPOC ACCUTE members in your network.

Thanks everyone and see you at Congress 2025!!
