The Association of Canadian College and University Teachers of English (ACCUTE) – the largest association for literary studies in Canada – invites members of other literary associations to consider developing and proposing joint panels between our associations to appear in the 2025 ACCUTE conference program.
The annual ACCUTE conference is a large gathering of literature scholars working in a diverse range of periods and fields. The average number of presenters over the past several years has been around 250 scholars and teachers from graduate students to professors emeriti, and we are anticipating an even larger conference this coming spring.
The 2025 conference will take place as part of the larger meetings of associations held during the Congress of the Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences (colloquially known as “Congress”). Our conference will be hosted in downtown Toronto at George Brown College from 30 May – June 2.
Members from other cognate associations are invited to propose a pre-populated joint panel featuring members of those associations to appear on the ACCUTE program
What is a joint panel? They usually consist of 3 papers for a 1.5 hour slot, but alternate formats are welcome, too, so they can be roundtables, workshops, whatever is most desirable for those organizing the panel. Joint panels are developed by members of a collaborating association as they see fit and then sent to the ACCUTE board for final approval before it is added to the program. The collaborating association can use whatever method of sending out its call to produce the panel that it likes, or can invite its members to propose a pre-populated panel without a call.
The completed panel description that would be sent to the ACCUTE board as a proposal for confirmation and acceptance would need to include the following:
- Names, emails, affiliations, bios (50 words) of all participants (presenters and moderators).
- A panel title
- A panel description (approximately 500 words), explaining the overarching area
- and rationale of the panel, as well as titles and descriptions of each of the papers it will include.
- A short abstract summarizing the panel (100 words)
- Three keywords relevant to the subject of the panel
- Indication of any special AV requests, accessibility needs, or any other information the organizers feel they need to share
Please submit the above materials as a single PDF or Word file to info.accute@gmail.com using the subject heading JOINT PANEL PROPOSAL. The deadline for joint panel proposal submissions is 15 January 2025.
If you are the president or member and have any questions about joint panels at ACCUTE, please feel free to contact Ghislaine Comeau at info.accute@gmail.com
