Contest: SSHRC Storytellers Challenge: Enter by January 16 to win $3,000

SSHRC’s Storytellers Challenge asks postsecondary students to show Canadians, in up to three minutes or 300 words, how social sciences and humanities research is affecting our lives, our world and our future for the better.

Tell us about a great SSHRC-funded project happening at your postsecondary institution. Your story must be compelling, creative and clear.

Time is ticking to submit your story to the SSHRC Storytellers Challenge! As you polish your submission, here are four tips that will help you win the hearts and minds of the judges and broader public audience – and a chance to receive $3,000:

1-   Focus

Ask yourself: What is the most important thing people need to know about this research?

2-   Talk to all of us!

Use plain language and avoid jargon. Use analogies and imagery from everyday life. Come up with a short, attention-grabbing title.

3-   Make it relatable!

People (including judges) are interested in things that affect them personally. Show why this research should matter to them.

4-   Show and tell!

Think of a gripping opening to your story that will grab the attention of your audience in the first few seconds or words. Use compelling visuals and words wherever you can.
