Job: Indigenous Literatures – Assistant Professor, MacEwan University (Application Review Begins: 21 November 2023)

With its dedication to teaching excellence, informed by scholarly research, innovation, and creative activity, MacEwan provides an exceptional collaborative and supportive learning environment with a commitment to human rights, environmental sustainability, and opportunities for community engagement. The Department of English in the Faculty of Arts and Science invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Indigenous Literatures at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval.

We are seeking an outstanding teacher with a scholarly research background in Indigenous literatures. We are open to a broad range of possible areas of expertise related to the study of Indigenous literatures, such as Indigenous literatures in multiple genres and/or media, Indigenous research methodologies and knowledge traditions, or Indigenous cultures and histories. Lived experience with Indigenous communities and involvement in community-engaged scholarship will be considered assets.  The successful candidate will teach senior-level courses in Indigenous literatures and introductory literature and/or writing courses, as well as develop special topic courses and seminars in Indigenous literatures. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. (or evidence of near completion) in a relevant area of expertise, present an ongoing research plan, demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education, and provide evidence of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level.

Applicants should electronically submit their cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching dossier (including but not limited to teaching philosophy, demonstration of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations), teaching evaluations, teaching record and interests), a statement of research interests and future research plans, and a sample of scholarly work. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Department Chair to provide three (3) letters of reference and copies of official degree transcripts sent from the institution.
