The School of Liberal Arts in the Faculty of Arts at Laurentian University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a twelve-month limited term faculty position with a five-course (or fifteen credit) teaching workload at the rank of Assistant Professor in the English Literature, Media, and Writing Program with specialization in Critical Theory and Contemporary Literature in English. The preferred start date is January 1, 2024. There is a possibility of a 4-month extension to April 30, 2025.

Candidates must have completed a PhD degree by the start date of the appointment, and relevant experience can be an asset. The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in English studies with expertise in Critical Theory and Contemporary Literature in English
• The ability to teach upper-year courses in these areas as well as contribute to the program’s first-year courses in Writing and English Studies and/or Creative Writing
• During the January to April 2024 semester, the successful candidate will teach the ELMW program’s core course ENGL-3057 Introduction to Critical Theories as well as ENGL-3396 Seminar in Contemporary Life Writing and ENGL-3596 Seminar in Contemporary Media. Courses for the fall 2024 semester will be determined based on program needs as well as the candidate’s particular areas of expertise and interest
• Have active knowledge of both official languages (functional bilingualism) or receptive bilingualism (passive comprehension of the French language)
• Evidence of the ability to effectively teach at the undergraduate level with a commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence, promoting a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment, and advancing Laurentian University’s bilingual and tricultural mandates
• Evidence of very good research and scholarship
• Commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive and vibrant academic and work environment.

In addition to active engagement and participation in teaching and research, the successful candidate will be expected to have an on-campus presenceand contribute through service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community.
