The Bibliographical Society of Canada (BSC) is pleased to announce that Dr. Chris J. Young has been appointed Editor of the Society’s peer-reviewed journal, Papers of the Bibliographical Society of Canada.

Chris Young is a Librarian and Head, Collections and Digital Scholarship at the University of Toronto Mississauga. He is currently curator of the Syd Bolton Collection, comprised of over 14,000 video games and hundreds of consoles and systems, along with over 5,000 issues of game magazines, hundreds of books and literature, peripherals, and related technology, materials, and documents. It is one of the largest collections of its kind in the world and the largest known in Canada for the study of interactive texts and digital games. He has published in the areas of media production studies, digital humanities, and bibliography, most notably with the Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, where he received the Katherine F. Pantzer New Scholar Award for his research on bibliographical variants in game texts. He has developed bibliographical and computational methods for analyzing and preserving digital objects, while adhering to the legal-rights of creators and copyright-holders. He has served in multiple positions on the BSC Council over the past decade, most recently as President from 2021 to 2023. Dr. Young may be contacted at: editor@bsc-sbc.ca.

Founded in 1947, the BSC is a national, bilingual organization that has as its goal the scholarly study of the history, description, and transmission of texts in all media and formats, with an emphasis on Canada. La Société bibliographique du Canada (SbC) a le plaisir d’annoncer que M. Chris J. Young a été nommé rédacteur en chef de la revue à comité de lecture de la Société, les Cahiers de la Société bibliographique du Canada.

Chris Young est bibliothécaire et responsable du département des collections et recherches numériques à l’Université de Toronto, à Mississauga. Il est présentement conservateur de la collection Syd Bolton qui comprend plus de 14 000 jeux vidéo ainsi que des centaines de consoles et dispositifs de jeux. La collection regroupe également plus de 5 000 exemplaires de magazines sur les jeux vidéo, des centaines de livres et ouvrages, des périphériques et autres technologies, ressources et documents connexes. C’est l’une des plus importantes collections au monde et la plus vaste collection connue au Canada pour ce qui est de l’étude des jeux numériques et textes interactifs. M. Young a publié dans le domaine des études de la production multimédia, des sciences humaines numériques et de la bibliographie, notamment dans les Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America dans le cadre desquels il a reçu le prix nouveau chercheur Katherine-F.-Pantzer pour ses recherches sur les variantes bibliographiques dans les textes de jeux. Il a développé des méthodes bibliographiques et informatiques pour analyser et préserver les objets numériques en respectant les droits juridiques des créateurs et titulaires de droits d’auteur. Au cours de la dernière décennie, M. Young a assumé plusieurs fonctions au sein du Conseil de la SbC dont il a tout récemment occupé le poste de Président, de 2021 à 2023.
