Tenure Track Assistant Professor, Department of English, Open Call: Indigenous Scholar

The Department of English at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2022, subject to budgetary approval. The preferred applicant will have completed, or be near completion of, a Ph.D. or equivalent in English or a related field. This position is designated for Indigenous scholars, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis scholars working in any field.

The University of Winnipeg is an urban, post-secondary institution on Treaty One land in the heart of the Métis Nation. The University offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Located in Winnipeg’s inner city, the University is committed to improving access to post-secondary education for traditionally underserved populations. Winnipeg is a culturally diverse, urban centre that is home to several significant cultural institutions including Qaumajuq (the new Inuit art centre at the Winnipeg Art Gallery), The Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. In posting this position, we seek to diversify our department and move toward a faculty complement that is more reflective of our student body and community.

Priority will be given to candidates with a strong record of teaching, publishing, and/or community engagement. The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in the Department’s undergraduate programs and may also have the opportunity to teach at the graduate level in the MA in Cultural Studies, which is housed in the English Department.
