The Department of Literature and Language in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a full-time continuing position in Contemporary British Literature at the rank of Assistant Professor of English. The successful candidate will specialize in twentieth or twenty-first century British Literature and have proven abilities to teach both periods at the undergraduate level. Candidates with further expertise in one or more of the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: women’s writing, writing instruction (creative and/or non-fiction), Indigenous literature, or post-colonial theory. This position commences July 1, 2020.
As a successful member of our faculty, you will be passionate about English literature, enthusiastic in your teaching practice, and committed to building relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the broader community. Responsibilities will include teaching at the undergraduate level, conducting research, and service to the faculty’s academic activities.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take a leadership role in teaching Contemporary British Literature. Preference will be given to those with a strong secondary area of expertise and who demonstrate creativity and excellence in their teaching practice.
Requirements for the position include:
- A completed or nearly completed PhD in the area of Contemporary British Literature;
- The ability to teach expository writing;
- The ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of learners;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Evidence of an effective ongoing program of academic research;
- A demonstrated ability to work collegially as a team member; and
- A willingness and ability to take on academic administrative duties.
- Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level would be an asset.
The normal undergraduate teaching assignment is 18 hours in the first year and 24 hours per year for subsequent years. Concordia provides opportunities for reductions in teaching to pursue research.
