The Department of English in the Faculty of Arts & Science invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in English at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2020, subject to final budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or evidence of near completion) with a focus on American literature prior to 1900 and preferred expertise in one of the following areas: poetry, drama, or critical theory and its histories (for example, postcolonialism, race/gender theory, disability studies, ecocriticism), particularly as they have shaped the study of American literature prior to 1900. Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education, present an ongoing research plan, and provide evidence of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level, including an ability to teach first-year English courses, courses in American literature, and special-topics courses in their areas of expertise.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide three letters of reference.
