ABOUT ST. MARY’S UNIVERSITY:
St. Mary’s University, an innovative teaching and research university that provides affordable, accredited and highly valued degrees in the Liberal Arts, Sciences and Education, invites applications for a tenure track appointment in Seventeenth and Eighteenth-Century English Literature commencing July 1, 2018. St. Mary’s is the only unaffiliated Catholic university in western Canada and is celebrating its 30th year as an educational institution.
Located on a historic site in Calgary, Alberta, our students are inspired to combine academics with a passionate commitment to ethics, social justice and respect for diversity of opinion and belief. St. Mary’s has over 900 full- and part-time students, 80 full- and part-time faculty, and an average class size of 25. The university has grown by over 50% in the last five years alone.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position requires a versatile teacher with diverse interests who is able to teach and develop a wide range of courses, including both halves of the British Literature survey. We particularly welcome applicants who have a secondary research or teaching interest in one of the following: drama and performance; gender and/or queer theory; postcolonial or Indigenous studies; media studies. Teaching load is 3/3.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have a PhD in English by the date of appointment, or shortly thereafter. The successful candidate will display evidence of excellence in teaching and research potential by submitting a teaching dossier that includes a statement of teaching philosophy, course evaluations, and sample syllabi. Evidence of research potential is to be demonstrated by the submission of a statement of research interest and writing sample.

COMPENSATION:
St. Mary’s University offers a competitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits program. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
