The Department of Writing at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position in creative nonfiction at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2018.
As a member of a small department, the candidate will be expected to share in administrative duties at the departmental, faculty and university levels, including as the Director of the Professional Writing Minor in Journalism and Publishing. Teaching duties will include creative nonfiction workshops and lecture courses on the theory and practice of creative nonfiction, journalism and/or publishing, as well as the supervision of graduate students and the mentorship of sessional instructors.
In accordance with the University’s Equity Plan and pursuant to Section 42 of the BC Human Rights code, preference will be given to women. Candidates from this group who wish to qualify for preferential consideration are encouraged to self-identify.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have at least a master’s degree or equivalent, successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level, and a significant record of creative nonfiction publications. A track record of receiving grants and awards, of community engagement, and a capacity to teach journalism, publishing, digital media production and/or another genre (fiction, poetry, screen or stage) are assets.

Established in 1973, the Department of Writing at the University of Victoria is one of Canada’s oldest and most prestigious programs in creative writing, offering a BA, BFA, and MFA in the genres of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, playwriting and screenwriting, as well as a Minor in Creative Writing and a Professional Writing Minor in Journalism & Publishing, and supporting Minors in Film Studies and Digital & Interactive Media in the Arts.
