The Department of English and Drama at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Twentieth- and Twenty-First-Century Global Anglophone Literatures. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2017.

All candidates with research and teaching expertise in twentieth-century and contemporary Anglophone world literatures will be considered, but we are most interested in applications from scholars with a specialization in one or more of the following areas – African literatures; Asian and/or Pacific literatures; Arab Anglophone literatures; global Indigenous literatures; global and comparative modernisms; race, ethnicity, and new media.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in a related field by the time of appointment, or soon thereafter and be prepared to teach a survey of twentieth-century Anglophone fiction in addition to courses in their field of specialization. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching through documented teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. Candidates must also have a record of scholarly accomplishment including publications with highly ranked academic journals and presses and other evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated by presentations at major conferences, fellowships or other research awards, and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will also be a full member of the Graduate Department of English, which consists of faculty from the University’s three campuses (UTM, U of T Scarborough, and U of T St. George). Duties will consist of research; the supervision of PhD dissertations; and teaching undergraduate courses at the Mississauga campus and graduate classes at the St. George campus.
