Indigenous Studies, Lecturer/Assistant Professor, limited-term (Dalhousie; deadline 30 Nov. 2015)

Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences invites applications for a fulltime, limited term appointment at the Lecturer/Assistant Professor level, effective 1 July 2016 and continuing until 30 June 2019. The candidate will be expected to teach six half year courses in support of the new Minor in Indigenous Studies, as appropriate to the individual’s disciplinary background, which should be in one of the arts, humanities, or social science subjects represented within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a half-year course on Indigenous Research Methodology & Knowledge Practices and one of the two half-year core courses in the Minor in Indigenous Studies: Historical Issues in Indigenous Studies or Contemporary Issues in Indigenous Studies. The other 4 half-year courses to be taught will depend on the candidate’s area of expertise and will be arranged in consultation with the candidate’s home department and the coordinator of the Minor.

Candidates will have a PhD (preferably in hand by 1 July 2016, although ABD candidates will be considered) and should have teaching experience.

Applications should include a complete curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier including a statement of teaching philosophies and interests and (ideally) evidence of teaching effectiveness, and three confidential letters of recommendation (in hard copy, forwarded separately by the referees.) A record of publication will be an asset.
