Description:

The Institute of Communication, Culture and Information Technology (ICCIT) at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The start date of the position is July 1, 2014. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and teaching experience.

We seek a candidate who is a new media educator and researcher and whose work focuses on the users of information and communication technologies and on the experiences that arise from these interactions. Currently the Institute is responsible for offering courses in HCI and user-interface design for all types of digital platforms and applications. Candidates must have a PhD, preferably in Information Studies, Industrial Design, Human Computer Interaction, Applied Psychology, Communication, or related disciplines focusing on user-centered interaction. Candidates should also have a track record of publications in top journals and conferences, and should be interested in supporting student learning in the areas of usability, information architecture, user research, and design. The successful candidate will be expected to commit to shaping the future of the Institute in the field of digital and new media and to assist in developing the ICCIT as a centre of research and teaching excellence. The Assistant Professor of New Media – User Experience will teach undergraduate and graduate courses focusing on this area of specialization and s/he will have a graduate appointment in one of the University’s tri-campus graduate departments. Evidence of excellent teaching and research abilities is required.

ICCIT is a newly established Institute at the University of Toronto Mississauga that focuses on teaching and research excellence in its four undergraduate programs: Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (CCIT), Interactive Digital Media (IDM), Digital Enterprise Management (DEM), and Professional Writing and Communication (PWC). Currently, ICCIT is building a research complement in social networking and communication, interactive and immersive digital media and culture, and the theory and practice of design, with an emphasis on all aspects of digital media. ICCIT is also actively engaged with the community and profit and non-profit organizations.
