The Department of English in the College of Arts & Science, University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a four-year appointment in Aboriginal literatures and storytelling in Canada at the Assistant Professor level, to begin July 1, 2013.

The successful candidate will teach existing classes in the area of Aboriginal literatures and storytelling in Canada, and an introductory literature and composition course in the College’s Aboriginal Student Achievement Program for first-year students. The position will also entail leading honours and graduate seminars, undertaking graduate supervision, and participating in the administrative work of the Department.

The completion or near completion of a PhD is highly desirable, as is demonstrated ability in teaching, research, and publication. A record of successful teaching of Aboriginal students will be considered an asset. In accordance with the Department’s commitment to increasing Aboriginal participation in all aspects and levels of its activities, qualified Aboriginal applicants are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Department of English is one of seven departments in the Division of Humanities & Fine Arts in the College of Arts and Science. Located in the Arts Building, the department has 25 permanent faculty. The Department of English is strongly committed to teaching excellence at both graduate and undergraduate levels. All tenured and tenurable faculty teach first-year courses, with most faculty teaching at least one first-year course annually.

The department provides undergraduate and graduate education in a variety of subject areas, including Medieval, Renaissance, Restoration and Eighteenth Century, Nineteenth Century, Modern and Post-Modern, Aboriginal, Decolonizing, and Digital Literatures, as well as Theory, Film, and Cultural and Media Studies.
