ENGLISH INSTRUCTORS – Competition Number 19-19 Status: Two Non-Regular Type 2 (100%) (full-time temporary) positions and One Non-Regular Type 2 (50%) (part-time temporary) position, start dates to be determined: either May 1, 2019 or September 1, 2019. Location: Surrey, Richmond or Langley.

The Department of English at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for two 100% Non-Regular Type Two (full-time temporary) and one 50% Non-Regular Type 2 (part-time temporary) faculty positions commencing May 1, 2019 or September 1, 2019 (start dates to be determined). The 100% positions involve teaching 8 courses (sections) over the course of 2-3 semesters, and the 50% position involves teaching 4 courses (sections) over 2-3 semesters, with the possibility of additional work. The courses will be offered at the Surrey, Richmond, or Langley campuses of KPU. 

The Department of English offers a B.A. Major and Minor in English. We also offer first-year English courses for all students enrolled in degree programs at KPU (approximately 6,000 students annually, most of whom study in disciplines outside of English). We offer small class sizes, ranging from 25-35 students, and embrace diversity, inclusion, and active learning in our classrooms. Our faculty members have a passion for teaching, a focus on transformative learning, and a commitment to the success of our students. 

Primary teaching duties will include two or more sections of ENGL 1100: Introduction to University Writing, and may include one section of one of the following: ENGL 1202: Reading and Writing About Selected Topics: An Introduction to Literature or ENGL 1204: Reading and Writing About Genre: An Introduction to Literature. We are seeking individuals who meet the following qualifications:
•    Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or literary studies is required; a completed PhD in same is preferred. 

Preference will be given to candidates with 
•    a record of excellence in teaching composition and literature at the undergraduate level
•    two years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level
•    demonstrated expertise in medieval literature, eighteenth-century literature, Romantic literature, and/or writing and rhetoric studies. 

In addition to regular teaching duties, the successful applicants will be expected to serve on department committees.
