The University of Windsor’s School of Dramatic Art invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Theatre and Performance Studies commencing July 1, 2016. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

The School of Dramatic Art at the University of Windsor is one of the oldest and best established theatre and drama programs in the country. Our graduates have made a mark both on the world stage and in film, as well as in education. The School of Dramatic Art operates in a state-of-the-art facility, which opened in July 2003 and contains spacious studios for Acting, Voice, Movement, and Drama in Education and Community, and a flexible-seat Studio Theatre. All studios are equipped for videoconferencing, sound, and have computer connections for power point delivery. University Players, the acting company of the School of Dramatic Art, also operates a 322 seat main stage in Essex Hall. The City of Windsor has a vital and expanding cultural community and we are within easy driving distance of Stratford, Toronto, Detroit, and Chicago. The focus of this position will be to develop scholar/practitioners, exploring theatrical art in production and researching its social impact with a mandate to generate interdisciplinary exchange and partnerships with the university community and beyond.
Essential Qualifications
- The successful candidate will have:
- a PhD or M.F.A. in an area of Theatre and Performance Studies completed by the date of appointment;
- knowledge of performance as research (PaR), as well as contemporary theatre and theatre history;
- a successful record of undergraduate teaching in areas of: theatre history, criticism and analysis of contemporary theatre, Canadian theatre and performance studies, as well as foundational courses developing skills in analysis of plays, dramaturgy, critical thinking, writing and presenting on the live event;
- a track record of scholarly/creative activity that demonstrates capacity for developing and maintaining a foundational theatre studies curriculum that serves students across all programs in dramatic art;
- an ability and willingness to supervise undergraduate student research; and a demonstrated ability and willingness to contribute to the operational activities of the School of Dramatic Art.
Desirable Criteria
- A record of scholarly/creative activity with connection to such cognate fields as Communication, Media and Film, Sociology, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Women and Gender Studies, Business, and Law.
