Call for Papers: International Shaw Society Symposium

The International Shaw Society and the Shaw Festival warmly invite scholars and theatre artists to the annual summer Shaw Symposium, which will take place July 24-26 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. Registration is free for ISS members.

Focused on Bernard Shaw’s writings, his legacies, and his contemporaries, this Symposium will feature new scholarship relating to plays included in the Shaw Festival’s 2026 season. We especially encourage proposals on Shaw’s Heartbreak House. Presentations on other plays and playwrights featured during the season will be considered if those proposals describe a context that plausibly includes Shaw, and if possible, Heartbreak House.

Please send proposals of no more than 300 words accompanied by a brief CV to Dr. Jennifer Buckley, jenbuck@umich.edu, by March 31, 2026.

Anyone in need of travel support – especially graduate students and independent scholars – is welcome to apply for the travel grants and scholarships offered by the ISS. Travel grant and scholarship application information can at https://shawsociety.org/scholarships/.
