THE ANGLE: The Newsletter of ACCUTE

Announcing the Publication of the Spring/Summer 2024 Issue of THE ANGLE

Welcome to the Spring/Summer 2024 issue of The Angle! Although we were not able to gather as we had hoped in Montreal this June, our Spring/Summer issue is a celebration of all the other (conference-adjacent) work we’ve been doing behind the scenes.

It’s been a busy awards season at ACCUTE. We are pleased to share with you the winners of the Congress Graduate Student Merit Awards, the winners of the annual F.E.L. Priestley Prize, and the winners of the inaugural CWC Graduate Student Creative Writing Contest. We are excited to publish the first- and second-prize winning entries in these pages. Read on for work by Vivian (Xiao Wen) Li, Mary V. Johnson, Zara Diab, and Meghan Kemp-Gee, introduced by Sarah Olutola.

Many thanks to Chinelo Ezenwa, ACCUTE’s BIPOC Caucus Rep, for launching her take on the CBC “First Person” interview series. These interviews capture the stories and perspectives of BIPOC members of ACCUTE from different parts of Canada at different stages of their teaching, research, or graduate student careers. In this issue, you will find excerpts from Chinelo’s interviews with Sarah Olutola, Mo Sharifi, and Lily Cho. The full interviews are always available on our website.

This will be the final issue of The Angle produced by the Lakehead Office of ACCUTE. The association now moves to its new home at Concordia University, under the leadership of Jason Camlot, President, and Cynthia Quarrie, VP. Please join us in welcoming them to these roles. We leave ACCUTE in very good hands.
