Sheridan is looking for outstanding individuals to join our faculty team. The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences invites applications for part-time faculty to deliver curriculum in the School of Communications & Literary Studies in the area of English Communication. The Communication courses prepare first year students to be successful in their programs by helping students develop strong critical thinking, communication and research skills. 

Sheridan professors are responsible for developing an effective learning environment for students while respecting their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles. 

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is looking for individuals to teach the following courses for Fall 2018:
•Communication Foundations (COMM 19997)
•Essential Communication Skills (COMM 19999)
•Composition and Rhetoric (ENGL 17889/ENGL 17889GD)

Sheridan professors are responsible for developing an effective and inclusive learning environment for students while respecting their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.  

Specific accountabilities include:
•Delivering course curriculum in classroom and/or online, which includes ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques
•Tutoring and academic counselling of students, while evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within assigned courses
•Defining, evaluating and validating learning outcomes and designing appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning
•Designing, revising, and updating of course material in consultation with the program coordinator, other faculty members, advisory committees, and potential employers and students
•Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations and incorporating technology into the learning process where applicable
•Attending periodic faculty meetings

Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in English (or a related field of study) is required; PhD preferred.
•Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level, with a minimum of three years’ teaching experience preferred;
•Practical experience with a Learning Management System (LMS), such as DesireToLearn, is preferred;
•Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level;
•Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills;
•Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
