The Department of English Language and Literature at St. Thomas University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2019, pending budgetary approval.
St. Thomas University is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution with a full-time enrolment of 1,900. Its students graduate with Bachelor of Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work degrees. The faculty members are distinguished teachers, researchers and scholars, and the University holds four Canada Research Chairs.
The Department is seeking applicants with expertise in the fields of English Language and Literature or Cultural Studies, with specific emphasis on Languages of Media. Languages of Media are broadly conceived as the critical and theoretical engagement with evolving social media platforms, visual and aural culture, the poetics of surveillance, and related domains of critical inquiry.
In addition to courses in their area of expertise, the successful applicant will be expected to teach our introductory course, ENGL 1016—English Literatures in History and Culture, and ENGL 2013—Research Methods in English. The ability to teach in a secondary field of English Language and Literature will be a strong asset. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to participate in the ongoing process of curriculum development in STU’s English Department. A PhD or imminent completion is required.
