Job Opportunity: Assistant Professor of English Studies (African American Literature) at Université de Montréal

Vibrant, multidisciplinary and innovative, the Faculty of Arts and Science is one of Université de Montréal’s largest faculties. The Department of Literatures and Languages of the World offers a range of interdisciplinary programs that explore a diversity of cultural and linguistic contexts and forms of expression. Our programs in English Studies are a vital section of the department. Delivered in English, our courses are organized around the study of literature across historical periods and genres, with an emphasis on gender and sexuality studies; medicine and literature; and postcolonial, decolonial, and planetary studies. Our faculty regularly works with colleagues and students from other sections and programs, including the Digital Humanities, and collaborates with various research centres and initiatives.

The person selected for this tenure-track position must be comfortable working in multidisciplinary and plurilingual contexts and will be expected to contribute to the department’s emphasis on intersectional research and teaching. Based on their expertise, the successful candidate will teach courses that are cross-listed in at least one inter-departmental faculty program (in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies or in Black Studies).

Day-to-day responsibilities

Through undergraduate and graduate-level teaching and research activities, professors in English Studies contribute to the Faculty’s pursuit of excellence, promote the discipline within and outside l’Université de Montréal, and participate in the daily activities of a renowned department and institution.
