CFP for the Canadian Literature Symposium (revised)

Call for Papers: Kanada Koncrete: Material Poetries in the Digital Age

How have digital technologies changed the way we create and understand poetry and ‘the poetic’? How, in particular, have the new media conditioned the production and dissemination of material(ist) forms of poetic art, whether established or emergent? What role do digital technologies play in oral and performance-based poetries? How have practitioners taken advantage of the multi-media possibilities of the internet and social media, the productive and reproductive possibilities of digitization, the computerization of inscription and composition in three dimensions? Have we finally achieved the necessary conditions for a truly ‘verbi-voco-visual’ work, the one-time dream of the modernist avant-garde?

Something has changed in the way we make and share poetry. Yet criticism has been slow to respond to both these new forms and the changed circumstances affecting existent works and practices. “Kanada Koncrete: Material Poetries in the Digital Age” hopes to address this gap, among others. The symposium will take place over three days, May 4-6, 2018, at the University of Ottawa.

We seek papers and artist’s talks related to the preceding and to any of the following topics (submissions with a Canadian focus are especially welcome):

Deadline for 300-word paper proposal or artist talk description: September 25, 2017. Contact rstacey@uottawa.ca
