ACCUTE 2020 Preliminary Schedule

Update: March 12, 2020

An important note from the ACCUTE President:

Dear ACCUTE members: We are pleased to release our draft schedule for ACCUTE 2020! Please keep in mind that this is a preliminary schedule; panels, locations, and scheduling are subject to change.

One thing that might impact our planning, of course, is the ongoing concern about the health risk of Covid 19. The ACCUTE executive attended a conference call for the member associations involved in Congress 2020 to discuss contingency planning for this year’s Congress. Please note that I am serving on the Federation’s newly created Advisory Committee on Covid 19 and will be representing ACCUTE to the best of my abilities in this capacity; our first meeting is happening shortly.

Any decisions made by the Federation will be made using three principles:

  1. Reflecting on both the health implications with respect to public health and the health of our members
  2. Making evidence-based decisions
  3. Collaborating and consulting with our partners and members fully

The meeting included a discussion about the potential use of technology (virtual participation) but no decisions have been made.

The Federation has decided to stick to the Early Bird registration deadline for now to preclude a loss of revenue for member associations. So far registrations have been very steady. Typically, up to April 15th, anyone can request a refund for Congress fees (both the Congress fee and the ACCUTE conference fee for Congress) but historically, there has been a $25 non-refundable fee. Given the changing environment, however, anyone who feels that there is a reason to not attend Congress 2020 due to Covid 19 (e.g. compromised immune-health) can request a full refund of any fees already paid. The Federation hopes to have a clearer sense of how they will be moving forward within a week or so.

Please do note that your ACCUTE membership is separate from the Congress fees. It is good for a whole year and offers you four print issues of English Studies in Canada, the quarterly ACCUTE newsletter, and a direct political voice both through our executive and through the Federation.

We are committed to keeping you fully informed and are very excited about our program. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the ACCUTE office.

Best, Jen Andrews
