Assistant Professor, Department of English Tenure-track, specializing in MFA Program in Writing

The Department of English of the University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a full time, tenure-track appointment in Creative Writing at the Assistant Professor level, to begin August 1, 2022. The successful candidate will teach graduate workshops in the MFA program in Writing, supervise MFA theses, and perform leadership and administrative duties associated with the MFA program. The appointment will also involve teaching undergraduate classes in creative writing as well as administrative work in the department. The successful candidate will be active in publishing their creative work and engaged in the wider writing community.

The Department of English has twenty-one permanent faculty and provides undergraduate and graduate education in a variety of subject areas, with areas of concentration for graduate studies in Creative Writing, Indigenous Literature, Cultural Studies, Digital Studies, Canadian Literature, and Modernist Studies. English faculty collaborate with and teach in programs in Women’s and Gender Studies, Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance Studies, Digital Culture and New Media, and the Department of Drama. Established in 2011, the MFA in writing now has fifty-six graduates and offers students a six-month mentorship as part of their program.

The College of Arts & Science offers a dynamic combination of programs in the humanities and fine arts, the social sciences and the sciences. There are over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the College and 312 faculty, including 10 Canada Research Chairs. The College emphasizes student and faculty research, scholarly and artistic work, interdisciplinary programs, community outreach and international opportunities.

A completed MFA in writing or commensurate professional credentials are required. A PhD in English or creative writing would be an asset. We are seeking candidates who have an established and dynamic publication record, with expertise in poetry, poetics, and at least one other genre, and who are committed to experiential learning and mentoring of students.

Preference will be given to those with experience in teaching and graduate supervision. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body, and especially Indigenous students, would be highly valued.

Salary band for this position for the 2020-2021 academic year, at the rank of Assistant Professor, is $96,301 to $115,723.
