Sessional Position (10 Month contract) in Medieval and Early Modern Literature

The English Department of Bishop’s University invites applications from candidates specializing in Medieval and Early Modern Literature, for a 10 month sessional position at the Assistant Professor rank, to begin September 1st, 2017.

Bishop’s is a residential university in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, with 2600 students from across Canada and around the world, nearly all of whom are undergraduates. With small class sizes, an intimate residential campus, and a faculty of dedicated teachers who are also active researchers, Bishop’s is an ideal environment for the exchange of ideas both in the classroom and beyond.

The English Department offers degrees and programs in two main areas, Literary Studies and Film and Media Studies, as well a minor in Creative Writing and Journalism. Candidates must be able to contribute to a range of these program areas, as well as to the numerous extra-curricular incentives originating in the department, including an international undergraduate conference (QUEUC), a film festival (BUFF), creative writing retreats (SWEET), a vibrant literary reading series (MHRS), and Canada’s longest running student literary journal (The Mitre). Minimum qualifications are therefore a PhD (or ABD with scheduled defense date) in Medieval or Early Modern literature (with the ability to teach both), a record of excellence in teaching, and evidence of an ongoing commitment to scholarship and research. Experience in communications and/or effective writing would be considered an additional strength.
