In keeping with its ongoing commitment, the Department of Indigenous Studies at the University of Saskatchewan is actively seeking outstanding Indigenous applicants for the position of Department Head at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

The successful candidate will have a permanent faculty appointment in the Department of Indigenous Studies, and will serve as Department Head for an initial term not exceeding five years. The Department Head reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts & Science. The Department Head is accountable for the leadership of the department and for contributing to the leadership of the College of Arts & Science. Accountabilities include the creation, alignment, and implementation of the department’s teaching and research plans and ensuring the academic quality of the department.

Applicants will have a PhD in Indigenous Studies or relevant discipline, and have demonstrated excellence in administration, research, teaching, publication, and Indigenous community engagement. Priority will be given to candidates who work with Indigenous knowledge, engage in innovative learning, teaching, research, and creative practices. The successful candidate will be a senior academic with administrative experience within a university who values collegiality and who can guide a dynamic faculty complement of ten scholars in their academic careers. As a faculty member in the Department of Indigenous Studies, the successful applicant will be expected to teach core curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate students, liaise with Indigenous communities and organizations, actively participate in program development and administration, contribute to the ongoing development of curriculum, and maintain an active research program.

Indigenous Studies is an interdisciplinary academic department that offers BA, BA Honours, MA, and special-case PhD programs. We are situated in the College of Arts and Science and currently have ten full-time faculty members with additional associate and adjunct members from other departments and institutions. Indigenous Studies is dedicated to the development of applied and theoretical investigations of Indigenous concerns and strategic community-based research. It is also dedicated to servicing the Indigenous Studies content needs of other academic programs in the university on and off-campus. We are currently undergoing a curriculum renewal process, which includes new course development and course revisions, to meet our renewed values, vision and mission. Salary Bands (July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017):
Associate Professor $112,109 – $130,925
Full Professor $130,925 – $152,877
