The Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Indigenous Studies. The ideal candidate will be within 10 years of receiving their PhD and be an exceptional emerging researcher, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field. The successful candidate will have the capacity to attract competitively awarded research funding from SSHRC and other granting agencies to support a vibrant, externally funded research program.

Applicants must demonstrate a track-record of engaging with Indigenous research methodologies and epistemologies, and evidence a commitment to community-based research that supports community- driven social, political, environmental, economic, and/or cultural aspirations and goals. The research is expected to align with the University of Lethbridge’s Strategic Research Plan, provide rich research training opportunities, and contribute to developing interdisciplinary academic networks within the institution (e.g. through Centres and Institutes) and beyond.

We particularly encourage applications from individuals whose research is focused on Indigenous kinship relations, including but not limited to: relationships with the Canadian settler state; status and belonging; cultural sovereignty, self-government, territory; processes of decolonization; adoption; child welfare; reproductive citizenship; individual, child, family, and community resilience and survivorship; human/non-human kinship relations.

The University of Lethbridge is located on traditional Blackfoot Territory and, with the establishment of a Native American Studies Department in 1975, it has sustained a commitment to Indigenous scholarship. Tier II Canada Research Chairs, tenable for five years and renewable once, are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field.
