In recognition of the centenary of his birth, the University of Ottawa’s English Department invites paper proposals on any aspect of the work and career of Irving Layton. Once a towering figure in Canadian culture, Layton and his work have suffered a generation of critical neglect. It is the aim of this symposium to address what has become an embarrassing gap in contemporary Canadian literary scholarship. We are especially interested in new and alternative approaches to Layton’s work. Expanded articles based on conference presentations will be considered for a special issue of Canadian Poetry.
Proposals should be 250 words and should be accompanied by a 100-word abstract and a 50-word biographical note. Please send proposals to email@example.com by November 12, 2012.
Symposium details will be posted on www.canlit-symposium.ca as they become available.
