About the Conference

Each year ACCUTE organizes a conference featuring nationally and internationally recognized scholars, and papers by researchers from many parts of Canada. This conference takes place at the annual meeting of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences (formerly known as the meeting of the Learned Societies). The Congress brings together scholars, teachers, administrators and graduate students associated with more than 100 scholarly and professional associations.

ACCUTE's conference usually runs for four days, and features multiple sessions in a wide range of fields, from Medieval Studies to Postcolonial Literatures. The program also regularly includes sessions on professional and pedagogical concerns, as well as joint sessions with a number of other scholarly associations.

ACCUTE's Annual General Meeting takes place at its conference, and is open to all members in good standing. Major policy initiatives and changes in administrative structures, budgetary policies, and ACCUTE's constitutional mandate are discussed at each year's AGM.

ACCUTE’s annual Call for Papers appears in the September Newsletter and CFPs are also posted on the website. There are four categories of CFPs:

  1. The “general” ACCUTE call for papers. All papers/proposals falling within the mandate of the organization, or addressing the interests of its members, will be considered. Submissions are made to the ACCUTE office, following the procedure described in General CFP.
  2. Member-organized sessions on special topics. Submissions are made directly to the organizer of the session, following the procedure described in Member-Organized Sessions.
  3. Joint-organized sessions, proposed by another scholarly organization, usually (but not always) another member-society of the Federation, meeting concurrently at the Congress. Submissions are made to the officer/organizer of the sponsoring organization, following the procedure described in Joint Sessions.
  4. The Christianity and Literature Study Group is an affiliated society, which conducts its sessions at the ACCUTE meeting. Submissions are made directly to the organizer(s), following the procedure described in Christianity and Literature Group.

The ACCUTE conference also features Executive-Organized Sessions related to professional concerns, pedagogy, and professional skills. Occasionally there is a CFP for an Executive-Organized session, but usually the speakers participate by invitation.
