POSITION TITLE: ENGLISH INSTRUCTOR

The English Department at KPU seeks to fill two full-time, regular positions (subject to budgetary availability).  The start date for the positions may be in May or September 2017.

Applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

1) Canadian and Indigenous Literatures

2) Cross-Disciplinary Composition, Rhetoric , and Writing Pedagogy

3) Postcolonial Literature

Offering a Bachelor of English, our Department teaches approximately 6,000 students annually, the majority of which study in disciplines outside of English. We offer small class sizes, ranging from 25-35, and a culture of collegiality and respect. Our faculty members have a passion for teaching, a focus on transformative learning, and a commitment to the success of our students. We are seeking individuals who meet the following qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a record of undergraduate teaching excellence in a student-centered environment and a demonstrated record of, or capacity for, research in the field. The successful applicant will be expected to serve on department committees and to teach primarily first-year English courses, especially ENGL 1100 – Introduction to University Writing.

Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of two years full-time post-secondary teaching experience. A completed (or imminent) Ph.D. is preferred (an M.A. in English is the minimum credential).

A complete application includes a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a description of teaching philosophy, sample teaching evaluations, representative relevant publications, and a list of three references able to comment on your teaching and academic qualifications.
